ACTIVITY SURVEY OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE
BRADFORD METROPOLITAN AREA, AUTUMN 2006

The proportion of pupils in year 11:

  1. remaining in full-time education (school or further education college) went from 70.0% in 05 to 73.1% in 06.

  2. entering employment without training fell to 2.5% from 3.1% in 2005.

  3. going into employment with training (funded and non-funded) dropped from 7.2% in 05 to 6.7% in 06.

  4. going into non-employed training rose from 4.0% in 05 to 4.5% in 2006.

  5. Not in Education, Employment or Training  (NEET) fell from 8.5% in 05 to 7.6% in 06.

Destination Patterns:

There are significant localised variations in the destination patterns for the different geographical areas within the Bradford Metropolitan District. As before, there continue to be significant variations in the destination patterns for pupils of different ethnic origins. 

There are also significant differences between the genders of pupils staying in education after 16. 

Proportions of year 13 students entering higher education have fluctuated from 41.9% in 1998, 36.4% in 1999, 40.1% in 2000, 43.4% in 2001, 50.1% in 2002, 49.1% in 2003,  44.71% in 2004, 51.2% in 2005 to 51.9% in 2006.. 

In 2006 the percentage of school pupils in the Bradford District gaining 5 GCSEs at grade C or above is 50.2% (34% including English & Maths).
