September 2003 we have changed the Quality Careers Library Initiative to Quality Connexions Library
Initiative to reflect the move
towards incorporating a wider information base reflected in the Connexions
agenda.
The Initiative has been developed to maintain the standard of careers
libraries within schools. Careers Bradford undertake to provide
up-to-date guidelines and information, plus advice and support where
required.
Information Services staff carry out an audit check each academic year, and as appropriate,
issue QCL certificates to Bronze, Silver, Gold & Gold Plus standards to successful
educational institutions, and for 2003/04 the new

resource library should contain details from the heading below, to a
greater or lesser extent:

Services staff from Careers Bradford will carry out an audit check

The
standards are measured as follows:

- free comprehensive
materials to a suitable standard, aimed primarily at community bases.

- access to Careerscape and Kudos or Adult Directions packages or a
suitable alternative e.g. CID or Odyssey
-

access to all of the above
plus access to the Internet that is accessible and supervised
-
- all of the above plus print/ reprographic facilities that are free
to the client plus telephone and e-mail facilities etc.

- good quality careers resources which are appropriate to the clients
needs.
Sorted! A Guide to Maintaining Your Careers Library
Information Services in
association with Calderdale and Kirklees, Leeds Careers Guidance and
Wakefield District Guidance Services, have launched a new scheme
called Sorted-A Guide to Maintaining Your Careers Library. Sorted
is primarily aimed to support the current careers service within school by
recruiting pupils to assist in the careers library. Information staff will
train pupils in all aspects of maintaining careers information. Once
training is completed and evidence of work is submitted to the information
staff, pupils will receive a certificate of recognition of their abilities
and skills achieved. For
